Moises Caicedo has insisted he wants to write his own history at Chelsea having been compared to previous players Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante.
The Blues have made a strong start to the season and currently sit fourth in the league, although they are winless in their last four matches, with Newcastle now a point behind in fifth.
Enzo Maresca has exceeded expectations so far but now faces his first real test and it will be interesting to see how he and the players respond to this slump in form.
A number of players have improved since the start of the season including the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez with the Blues losing just four matches in the first half of the campaign.
Caicedo is another player who falls into that category and the midfielder looks like a player reborn under Maresca, with Gary Neville labelling him as outstanding.

The 23-year-old initially struggled following his £115m British record transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2023, but started to find his feet over the second half of last season as the Blues secured a top six finish.
However, this season the Ecuador international has gone to another level and has arguably been the best midfielder in the league, with Jason Cundy believing he’s more important to the team than Palmer.
Caicedo has opened up on his time at Chelsea and comparisons with Kante and Makelele who he admitted were his idols, but the Ecuadorian has insisted he wants to write his own history.
“Yeah, every player is different,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“They were my idols, they are my idols! Sometimes I watch their videos to learn more, but I’m Moises Caicedo and I want to write my own history, and that’s what I’m doing.”
Caicedo is certainly doing that and he’s got all the capabilities to become a world class midfielder, but to be considered with the likes of Kante and Makelele he needs to lead Chelsea to trophies.
