Chelsea have officially sacked Liam Rosenior, ending his horrid four-month nightmare at the club.

The decision was announced early Wednesday following a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday night, the Blues’ fifth consecutive Premier League loss.

This came after the Blues lost 3-0 to Brighton on Tuesday night, their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat.

The defeat at the Amex Stadium was the final straw for the Chelsea board, as the club slumped to an unwanted historic low.

By failing to find the net against the Seagulls, Chelsea have now gone five straight league games without scoring a goal.

This barren run is a feat of futility the club has not experienced since 1912, leaving the West London side in a state of unprecedented crisis.

Callum McFarlane has been given the task of taking on the role of head coach until June on an interim basis.

McFarlane, who previously served as the club’s Under-21 lead and a first-team coach, is a highly-regarded tactician but faces a baptism of fire.

His first major test comes this Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley.

The hierarchy hopes that McFarlane’s familiarity with the squad will provide a “new manager bounce” to save what remains of a disastrous campaign and potentially secure silverware to mask the domestic failings.

Confirming the sacking with a statement on their official website, Chelsea confirmed that McFarlane will work with the support of the existing backroom staff with an aim to progress in FA Cup and achieve European qualification.

The statement read: “Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.

“As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”

Liam Rosenior’s nightmare stint at Chelsea in numbers

Rosenior arrived in January on a high-profile six-and-a-half-year contract, but his tenure unraveled with staggering speed.

Despite a promising 5-1 win over Charlton in his debut FA Cup match, his league form was catastrophic.

In 13 league games, Rosenior won just five, drawing two and losing six, including five in a row.

Across all competitions, in 23 games, he won just 11, losing 10 and drawing two.

While Chelsea hierarchy had brought him as a long-term appointee, the recent results seem to have forced their hand as the Todd Boehly era sees yet another manager sacked.
