The USA international suffered a nasty and unfortunate Achilles injury in the Europa League last season against Austrian side Sturm Graz. That situation was just one in a long list of unforseen issues that dogged our campaign throughout the duration of the season and in a variety of ways.

There was major unrest and discord within the fanbase last term surrounding the club’s hierarchy and the inner machinations of how Celtic is currently being run. That, added to the mistreatment of supporters in a number of ways from the same boardroom members contrived to curtail our Scottish Premiership title charge.

Things thankfully managed to get back on course for us to win the title under Martin O’Neill’s incredible guidance and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be aiming to feature more this forthcoming season, after missing out on so much football last term.

Speaking after our match with Championship outfit Middlesbrough, Celtic’s ‘Big Strong Man’stated: “It was a good game, a good test. They’re a pretty good side, played some good stuff at times. It made us work hard, but it’s good. It’s pre-season, so it’s all about building up fitness.

“I feel good. Like you said, it’s been a while. I think you’re right, it’s almost nine months since I did my Achilles. But getting back fit and feeling pretty good. And looking forward to what’s to come,” the central defender commented, via the CelticPlayer.

European heavyweights AC Milan are next up for the Bhoys in a glamour friendly at home this weekend, with Carter-Vickers reckoning it will be another great test ahead of our league opener versus Dundee on 3 August. “Yeah, I think, obviously, pre-season is about getting ready for the season,” CCV stated to the club’s official channel.

“And obviously, two weeks away now, or two weeks and a couple of days. So, yeah, it’s just been building up to that first game. And like you said, next week, AC Milan will be another good test for us and then into the league.”

The centre-back also revealed he is looking forward to working under Martin O’Neill in what will be a new era at Celtic Park hopefully.

“It’s been good, obviously,” CCV said. “Last season, I wasn’t playing, but I was around the training ground, around the squad quite a bit. So, I got to see things and pick up stuff last season. But yeah, it’s good to be back and working under him now.”

Many Celtic supporters would like to attend the game this weekend against AC Milan BUT that will be conditional on the club’s ambition and success in the transfer window after such a lacklustre summer so far in terms of concluding new signings.
