Egyptian football legend Mohamed Abou Trika expressed his immense satisfaction after Morocco's national team secured their spot in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following their dramatic penalty shootout victory over Nigeria in the semi-finals.
Speaking on beIN Sports, the former Egyptian international congratulated Walid Regragui's men, insisting their qualification was fully deserved: "Congratulations to Morocco. The qualification is richly deserved. The players put in a tremendous effort and I want to salute the exceptional team spirit that reigns within this squad."
Abou Trika highlighted that the Atlas Lions are now just one step away from achieving a long-awaited dream: "Only one step remains to reach the dream. After 50 years away, Morocco are back in the AFCON final, and they're doing it at home. With every match, this dream grows bigger."
The former Al Ahly player also singled out goalkeeper Yassine Bounou for special praise: "For me, the best player of the match is Yassine Bounou. He comes from a great school of goalkeeping. His spectacular save in the penalty shootout proves that a title is won with a keeper who has true leadership qualities. Against him, every penalty is taken with a thousand thoughts."
He also commended the tactical discipline of the Moroccan side and their ability to contain Nigeria's formidable attack: "Morocco managed to assert their control and effectively neutralize Nigeria's powerful offense."
Abou Trika concluded by highlighting the quality of the spectacle: "Technically, this match was worthy of African football. We witnessed a clash of the highest level, both physically and technically. Once again, congratulations to Morocco."
