Can Arsenal end Bompastor's undefeated run?

Champions League winners Arsenal will take on domestic treble winners Chelsea in what could be one of the most pivotal games of the WSL season.

There's plenty of intrigue going into this game. Renée Sleger's side went four games without a win between mid September and early October before notching three victories in a row.

However, wins over Brighton, Benfica, and Leicester City are very different from what is a very tricky November for Arsenal beginning this Saturday against Chelsea. And while the game against the Blues could prove crucial come the end of the season, Arsenal still have to think about upcoming fixtures against Bayern, a much-improved Tottenham, and Real Madrid.

If there is any team who looks most likely to end Sonia Bompastor's undefeated domestic run (36 games, 33 wins, 3 draws in the league and two cups) then it's probably either Arsenal or the two Manchester teams.

Indeed, Bompastor's title-winning side did the double over Arsenal last year, winning 2-1 away from home and 1-0 at home.

This has been a unique week for one Chelsea player in particular though. Excerpts from Mary Earp's autobiography have placed a big spotlight on England number one Hannah Hampton.

There will be expectations that Hampton puts on a performance that answers any criticism which can be difficult against the attacking talent of Arsenal. Stina Blackstenius has the best goals per 90 minutes in the WSL (1.37 goals per 90, ahead of teammate Frida Maanum with 1.13) while Beth Mead tops the charts for assists per 90 minutes (1.14 assists per 90 with Blackstenius third on 0.69).

Arsenal are one of the few sides who are able to get one over on Chelsea on a consistent basis. Of 47 fixtures between the two sides, the Blues have won 21, only one more than Arsenal with the remaining six games ending in draws.

Should Chelsea win it would be hugely damaging to Arsenal's title challenge considering the Gunners are already five points behind their rivals with the two Manchester clubs and Spurs separating the two sides.

However, if Arsenal can end Bompastor's undefeated domestic run then we could end the weekend with five teams at the top separated by just four points depending on what happens elsewhere.
