„Can change quickly“: Kompany puts the brakes on Bayern’s championship euphoria | OneFootball

FC Bayern are clearly on course for the title. Following their 3-2 win in the classic against Borussia Dortmund, the Munich side have extended their lead to eleven points and taken a big step closer to their 35th championship in the club’s history. While many fans and experts are already firmly expecting the title, coach Vincent Kompany is putting the brakes on the euphoria

The Belgian made it clear at the matchday press conference ahead of the Bundesliga home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach that full concentration is still required at the record champions. „We’ve had an eleven-point lead before and we know how quickly that can change,“ emphasized Kompany. For him, one thing above all is important: focusing on his own performance

„We only look at our performance and our victories. I looked at the table once after the game against Dortmund, which looked good. But after that, it was all about Gladbach again. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s a way of life for me.“

Kompany is looking forward to an intense few weeks

While FC Bayern have had a comparatively relaxed playing rhythm recently, there are numerous English weeks on the agenda again in March. For Kompany, however, this is exactly the normal everyday life of a top club

„We’re used to it. The funny thing was when we didn’t have any English weeks and could enjoy a Sunday,“ explained the Bayern coach

The 39-year-old believes the Munich squad is well equipped for the upcoming challenges. „What we’re facing is what we’re used to. We have the squad to play these games. When we have few games, there are players who only get a few minutes – it’s different now. That’s what our squad is built for.“

More games bring more rhythm

For some players in particular, the more intensive phase could even be an advantage. According to Kompany, there are currently only a few players who lack a certain rhythm due to the recent lower number of games. „If I assess it objectively, there are perhaps two players who have less rhythm because we’ve had fewer games. That will turn around in the next three or four weeks.“

The Bayern coach is not worried about the fitness of his team anyway: „I’m not worried about the fitness of our lads. The lads are ready, we’ve prepared ourselves mentally for the English weeks plus the national team.“

Although the coming weeks mean more work for Kompany, he also sees this as an advantage: „It’s more work for me as a coach, but it also makes it easier because the lads know that their moments are coming.“

One thing is clear: despite their comfortable lead in the table, FC Bayern’s standards remain high – and Kompany will ensure that his team does not lose focus until the end of the season.
