Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham United at Selhurst Park on Monday.

They had the Hammers on the ropes for most of the game, but could not make the pressure count.

Despite the disappointment of dropping two points, Palace boss Oliver Glasner hailed the defensive performance and the clean sheet.

Palace defender Jaydee Canvot played a key role in ensuring the shut-out, delivering a superb performance at the back.

Canvot won eight out of ten duels and made one incredible last-man tackle to earn his side the point. It was a ‘complete‘ performance.

The Palace centre-half made 11 clearances and four progressive carries, proving an insurmountable challenge at the back.

Canvot has grown in stature this season. He has helped the Eagles keep four of their 12 Premier League clean sheets.

He has proven an able deputy in the rearguard in Marc Guehi’s absence.

His improvement has helped soften the blow of the England international’s departure mid-season.

The 19-year-old is clearly not yet the finished article, but he has the raw ingredients to become a key player for the club.

Palace have a good player on their hands and must be careful with his development to ensure he becomes a world-beater.

Keeping Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards around him next season will also be key for his development as a defender.

He is beginning to form a more cohesive partnership with them, and that continuity will aid his development.

He has shown that he deserves the left centre-half starting berth for the rest of the season.

Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 system needs an athlete who can defend, carry, build and cover width. Canvot fits the bill.
