After welcoming the aforementioned Rayo to the Santiago Bernabéu, Los Blancos emerged 2-1 victors, owing to goals on the part of Kylian Mbappé, and Vinícius Jr.

As alluded to above, though, during the 2nd-half, with the result far from secure, Carlo Ancelotti nevertheless opted to haul off two leading members of his frontline.

First hooked was Rodrygo, before goalscorer Kylian Mbappé followed suit a little over ten minutes from time.

Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, the subject of his decision to take both players off was in turn put to Real’s headmaster.

And Carlo Ancelotti went on to explain:

“I took Mbappé and Rodrygo off because it will be good for them on Wednesday in the Champions League.”
