Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the press this afternoon ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against RB Salzburg on Wednesday evening.
High on the agenda were yesterday’s reports that indicated that the Italian coach is set to step away from the Real Madrid job at the end of this season.
As per The Athletic’s Real Madrid correspondent Mario Cortegana, Ancelotti was quick to debunk these rumours by rejecting them completely.
“Hahaha. I want to be very clear: my departure date from this club will never be decided by me. I know perfectly well that it will come one day, but I will not be the one to decide. It could be tomorrow or in one or five years. “
Ancelotti then continued by speaking about his positive relationship with club president Florentino Perez, emphasizing that he sees more success in both his and the club’s future.
“It could be tomorrow or in one year or even five years. It’s great that Florentino will have four more years and I have the goal of being there with him. We can say goodbye together.”
As for where or how the rumours of Ancelotti’s departure began, it is difficult to say. Spanish radio station Onda Cero ran the story, citing anonymous sources.
Real Madrid fans can, at least for now, rest easy in the knowledge that the most successful coach in the club’s history isn’t going anywhere, and is just as hungry for success as he has ever been.
