Carlo Ancelotti remained calm after Real Madrid’s challenging defeat at Anfield, recognising Liverpool as one of the most formidable teams in Europe.
Despite the outcome, the Italian manager appeared optimistic about the progress of his side, expressing confidence that Real Madrid is gradually returning to its best form.
“We are getting back to being what we want to be,” said the Real Madrid manager after the match.
The match at Anfield was always going to be a tough test for Real Madrid, given Liverpool’s strong momentum in recent weeks.
“It was a difficult match, that was already known. It’s the most difficult stadium in Europe because they have a good dynamic.”
Ancelotti praised his players for their effort and competitive spirit, stating that his team showed resilience throughout the game.
“We competed, we fought. We were in the game until the penalty and then we dropped a bit. In the first half, we defended well but we could have taken better advantage of the counterattacks because we had two or three opportunities.”

While the defeat made their path to the top eight even more difficult, Ancelotti seemed more focused on the bigger picture.
He highlighted that his squad is working hard to play the way they aspire to, with the ultimate goal of competing at the highest level, just as they have in previous seasons.
“We will qualify and we will compete as we have done in other years,” he noted.
The manager acknowledged that injuries within the squad have presented additional challenges. Key players, including Kylian Mbappe, have had to push through difficult circumstances to perform for the team.
“We are back to playing the way we want to. The issue of injuries is another matter. Mbappe has fought and competed. He has the support of everyone.”
Lastly, despite the result, Ancelotti stressed that the defeat does not significantly alter their overall chances of progressing in the competition.
“It doesn’t change much because even if we won it was difficult to be in the top eight,” he stated.
Even if Real Madrid had managed to secure a win at Anfield, advancing to the next stages would have remained a monumental task. However, the coach’s focus lies in maintaining consistency and continuing to build on recent performances.
