At the time, Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were running the club, while Hasan Salihamidzic had just arrived as sporting director. Ancelotti describes his sacking in his book The Dream: How to Win the Champions League:

It was the most ruthless dismissal of my entire career. I was accountable to several important people at the same time. It was hard to tell who actually held the most power.

In his view, expectations were simply too high:

We largely dominated the Bundesliga that season, but for Bayern, that wasn't seen as a success. It was the bare minimum expected.

The defeat that stood out was a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, where Ancelotti admits to a tactical error. The dismissal followed the very next day.

Ancelotti also reveals that his superiors forced certain measures on him that he didn’t support, such as reading a five-point list to reinforce discipline within the squad:

I found myself in front of the team in the dressing room, pulled the sheet from my pocket and said: I have been ordered by the board to read you this list here.

Today, Ancelotti has few fond memories of his time in Munich. He went on to enjoy great success with Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid, and is now the head coach of the Brazilian national team.
