The Hillsborough outfit remain in administration, and have already been relegated to League One, but recently restored some pride by holding Championship leaders Coventry City to a 0-0 draw last Saturday.

Henrik Pedersen's men are vying to earn just their second win of the season when they host Charlton Athletic this weekend, while they still have a negative points tally courtesy of their deductions.

Wednesday have not yet been subject to a takeover, but David Storch's Arise consortium are making positive steps towards completing their transaction.

Exiting administration will help the Owls look forward to a brighter future, even though they are set to be docked 15 points next term, as Storch's bid fell below the amount required to pay creditors 25p in the pound.

One of the saddest aspects of Wednesday's current plight is that they boast one of English football's most recognisable names, and were a founder member of the Premier League.

The Owls have not won a trophy since winning the League Cup in 1991, but have retained a passionate and sizeable fan base, who have continued to support Pedersen's side throughout this season's hardship.

Discussing the South Yorkshire outfit live on talkSPORT on Wednesday, Carvalhal said: "I stay in love with the Championship, of course, the Premier (League) is the Premier, but the Championship, I stay in love with the teams, with the fight.

"Especially with the fans, because I was with a club that is a giant, because they have a massive support, even (though) they will be in League One. It’s a Premier club for me, but a big passion. I saw the last game. I think they played away, they have a full allocation. It’s unbelievable."

As alluded to by Carvalhal, Wednesday supporters sold out their allocation at Coventry last Saturday, even though their side appeared destined for a defeat against a significantly better team.

Pedersen and his players repaid the faith instilled in them by their fans, as they battled to a 0-0 draw against the Sky Blues, who have all but secured their place in next season's Premier League.

The current campaign has been one of the toughest seasons in Wednesday's history, and supporters will be pleased that it is coming to an end soon.

Former Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri, has caused lasting damage to the South Yorkshire outfit by plunging them into administration, and will never be forgiven by fans.

However, the Thai businessman's ultimately failed ownership coincided with Carvalhal's time in the Hillsborough dugout, which was largely successful.

The Portuguese boss led Wednesday to the Championship play-offs in both 2016 and 2017, a feat that they have never managed to achieve since.

While the current season has heaped misery on a proud fan base, Carvalhal's time in charge of the Owls gave supporters several memories that they will always be grateful for.

The Hillsborough faithful will be particularly fond of the 3-0 victory over Arsenal their side enjoyed under Carvalhal's management back in October 2015.
