"I am a goalkeeper who is not afraid to take risks," said Palmeiras first-choice Carlos Miguel, targeting a place in the club’s goalkeeping lore. The 2.04m Brazilian has stepped in and made the shirt his own.
He replaced idol Weverton, now at Grêmio, after an injury late in 2025 fast-tracked his rise, having been signed last year with 2026 in mind. As reported by Globo.com, he had 37 senior games before joining and has not looked back.
He has played 21 times across late 2025 and early 2026, keeping 11 clean sheets, and studies match footage to fine-tune details. "I know I am in a very good moment and I know I can get even better," he said.
At set plays he now stands higher, near the six-yard line, a plan shaped with Abel Ferreira and goalkeeper coaches Rogério Godoy and Thales Damasceno. He is increasingly involved with his feet. "If it is one v one we will go long, or we will play out to draw them in."
After a year at Nottingham Forest and only two matches, he returned to Brazil, becoming Palmeiras’ most expensive goalkeeping signing. "Coming back also mattered for the Seleção, because I was not getting minutes there, and Palmeiras are gigantic with a history of keepers in the national team." He sees the move as a route back into Brazil contention before this year’s World Cup, and now hunts a first title after runners-up in the Brasileirão and the Conmebol Libertadores.
