Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has launched another attack on Mohamed Salah following his outburst against the club and manager Arne Slot.

Salah accused the club of making him a scapegoat for their poor form by benching him for three straight games. He also said his relationship with Slot was broken.

Salah will be punished for stepping out of line. He is not on the Liverpool Champions League squad list for the trip to Inter Milan.

Speaking on Monday Night Football about the saga, Carragher took aim at Salah.

He said (via Sky Sports), “One thing I want to remind Mohamed Salah and maybe his agent, before he came to Liverpool, Mo Salah was known as the guy who failed at Chelsea. That’s just a fact.

“He’s also the greatest player the country has ever had. Egypt is the most successful nation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). But Salah has not won AFCON.

“That’s not me trying to put him down as a player, but what it tells Mo Salah and his agent is that it’s not about an individual. You were not a star when you came to Liverpool.

“No matter how good a player you are, you need help from your teammates, the manager and the fans.

“It’s important he remembers that. When he’s talking there, it’s all about ‘me, me and me!'”

Carragher has lost the plot

Critique Salah’s form? Fine. Debate his attitude? Fair game. But dragging up Chelsea, diminishing his impact for Egypt, and twisting a successful career into this? That’s crossing the line.

Without Salah, half of the heights this club has reached in the last seven years wouldn’t exist.

This was the perfect moment for Carragher to be bigger than the noise. To resist the temptation to jump on the pile-on, to avoid the cheap outrage, to break the cycle and show a bit of perspective.

Salah’s outburst was calculated and self-serving. However, he’s earned the right to be indulged after what he’s delivered to the club. Carragher should know that.

Instead, he did the exact opposite. He took the bait, swung wildly, and made it all about delivering another television-friendly hot take.

Carragher should show respect to Salah, a player who has given everything to the badge he claims to defend.
