Carrascal to miss Flamengo’s Copa do Brasil opener | OneFootball

Leonardo Jardim faces an early selection headache, as Jorge Carrascal will miss Flamengo’s Copa do Brasil first leg at Vitória on Wednesday 22 due to suspension.

Sent off for aggression in the Supercopa do Brasil against Corinthians, the midfielder was initially handed a four-match ban. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva cut that to two on Wednesday 15 after Flamengo’s appeal.

The sanction applies only to competitions run by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol, so it does not cover the Libertadores. Carrascal can therefore feature against Independiente Medellín on Thursday 16.

He was also dismissed in the 2-1 win over Fluminense on Sunday 12. In total he must sit out three domestic games, against Bahia and Atlético-MG in the league and Vitória in the cup.

With Carrascal available, Flamengo turn to the Libertadores. Jardim’s side host Independiente Medellín at the Maracanã at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday, in the second round.
