According to Globo.com, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, ruled on 10 March that Corinthians must pay just over R$ 7.2 million to Shakhtar Donetsk over the December 2022 loan of midfielder Maycon. The club were given 45 days to settle, or risk a Fifa transfer ban.
Failure to pay could prevent Corinthians from registering new players. Last season they spent months under a transfer ban, ending the year with only full-back Angileri and forward Vitinho arriving.
CAS found the Brazilian side had breached the agreement. It ordered payment of one million euros plus a 75 thousand euro fine and a further 45 thousand for Fifa article infringements, with interest at 10% per year from 2023.
Separately, Corinthians also have an active ruling related to the signing of midfielder Rodrigo Garro from Talleres in Argentina.
The club are in negotiations with Shakhtar. Shakhtar owe approximately 500 thousand euros to Corinthians from the sale of forward Pedrinho, and that sum is being discussed as an offset against the Maycon loan debt.
