Casemiro has claimed Matheus Cunha is going to be ‘so important’ for Manchester United in the coming seasons.

Should he continue his tenure in the way it’s started, there’s no doubt he can be one of the club’s main men for the foreseeable future.

Casemiro preparing for an emotional United exit

In the meantime, INEOS chiefs are tasked with the monumental assignment of finding a replacement for Casemiro when he bids farewell to United at the end of June.

When club action resumes for United in a week’s time, the midfield veteran will be overseeing his final seven matches before his contract expires.

Securing a suitable successor is United’s priority for the summer, and it’s anticipated there will be more than one addition to the middle of the park, with Manuel Ugarte also expected to depart.

Fans had called for Casemiro to stay put for an additional season by chanting ‘one more year’ at Old Trafford when he scored in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa last month.

However, the 34-year-old is at peace with his decision, which has also been backed and approved by club officials, who agree that this year is the right time to part ways.

What Casemiro had to say about Cunha

When reflecting on his creative tendencies and his favourite assist in a red shirt, Casemiro told MUTV (as cited by UtdDistrict) recently: “I don’t know if it is my favourite, but one I like is one I did [last] year for Cunha, because he is a player that I have a lot of affection for, and he wanted to open his goalscoring account and I was the first to give him an assist.

“I am sure he will always remember it, as he is a player that is going to be so important for Man United, and I was able to give him his first assist.”

For Cunha, he’ll get to share the stage with his compatriot for longer than the rest of the Red Devils squad when the two represent Brazil at the World Cup in June, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side once again one of the major favourites to lift the trophy for the sixth time.
