Neymar will not travel with Brazil’s squad to Cleveland, as the CBF confirmed the forward will stay in New Jersey to continue treatment on his right calf.
He will continue physiotherapy and step up the tailored physical recovery programme set by the national team’s medical department.
The plan is designed to accelerate progress without skipping treatment stages. Since reporting for duty, he has followed daily physical work, muscle strengthening and clinical monitoring.
Internal assessments remain positive. He has improved in recent weeks and begun transition activities, but has not been cleared to train with the ball alongside team-mates.
He suffered a grade 2 injury to his right calf during Santos v Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro. After joining up with the squad, further tests confirmed the diagnosis and triggered the recovery protocol.
The expectation is that he moves on to on-field work in the coming days. Despite the progress, the medical staff are cautious, as the calf is heavily taxed in matches and any early return could increase the risk of aggravation.
For now, he remains out of group training and focused solely on rehabilitation. The coaching staff are working to have him available for the World Cup opener on 13 against Morocco, or if needed only on 18 against Haiti in the second round.
