Celtic defender Julian Araujo looks set for an international recall ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The Mexican star has become a fan favourite in the Hoops since arriving on a loan deal from Bournemouth, clearly taking to life in Glasgow.
There has been significant clamour to sign Araujo on a permanent deal and the former Barcelona talent has spoken positively about extending his stay at Paradise.
Now, Araujo looks set to return to the Mexico squad ahead of the World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the USA. Mexico boss Javier Aguirre confirmed that he had held discussions with the Celtic fullback.
“It’s true that I also spoke with Julian Araujo, who is currently doing well in Scotland.
“Right back is a position where I have many options.
“We have Rodrigo Huescas at FC Copenhagen too and I want to see our players in Europe in the future.”
Araujo has made the right back berth his own, seeing off competition from Colby Donovan and Anthony Ralston. The Scottish pair have interchanged in the right back role given Alastair Johnston’s long term absence with a hamstring injury.
The Canadian will be back after the split to compete with Araujo as Celtic look to displace league leaders Hearts to retain the Premiership title.
