Former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has made a surprise appearance in a coaching capacity despite launching a successful career as a pundit. The 38-year-old retired eighteen months ago as Celtic made it three in a row with Hart’s departure one of the subplots in the run in that season.
Hart was pictured with the gloves on again but there was no comeback for the ex-Man City stopper. Super Joe had stepped in to help former club Shrewsbury Town for their away clash against Salford City.
Hart helped Shrewsbury on a one-off basis as they look for a permanent appointment as goalkeeping coach.
The gig will not interfere with Hart’s media work, where he’s fast becoming one of the best pundits, offering insight from a top level ex-pro without the bluster that we’ve become accustomed to.
Hart carried himself extremely well at Celtic both on and off the pitch and the fitting farewell that he received was testament to a great player but a great man. The decorated English Internationalist embraced Celtic and he was fully embraced by the club, forming a key part of the squad under Ange Postecoglou and then Brendan Rodgers.
Hart called time on his career when he knew he was slowing down but given the excellent shape that he’s clearly in, he could have continued to play for longer.
