Celtic hero Chris Sutton has challenged Kelechi Iheanacho to improve his movement as he continues to settle into life with the Scottish Champions. The ex-Man City and Leicester City star joined Celtic in the summer, coming in during a difficult time at the club owing to the poor transfer window.
Speaking in his Record Sport column, Sutton has said that he wants to see more from the Nigerian attacker.
“Kelechi Iheanacho is an interesting one too. You’d expect him to get stronger the more he builds match fitness.
“He’s made a decent start with his goal in Belgrade and the penalties against Kilmarnock and Motherwell.
“You can see he’s a finisher, and his link up play is good. I think he could offer more in terms of his movement though.
“Okay, he’s just come in and he hadn’t played a lot of football in recent months. He’s arrived on the back of a disappointing year or so at Sevilla and Middlesbrough.
“The good thing about him is he seems to have bought into the club. It could be that this is the kind of move he needed to light a fire under him again, because we all know he’s got the talent.
“I’d just like to see a bit more in terms of mobility, getting into the box and getting across his man.”
Iheanacho will be getting his fitness up with a view to leading the line regularly for 90 minutes. The link up play from the striker has been impressive, coming short and bringing the midfield into play. Hopefully he can kick on as Celtic look to improve their attacking performances.
The player has clearly bought into the club, with the videos of him on the bench in the win against Motherwell going viral. The striker sprinted down the touchline and celebrated alongside his teammates after Daizen Maeda’s late winner.
