Celtic stars have “lifted the spirits” of ill kids at Glasgow Children’s Hospital with the special chance of seeing the newly crowned Champions with the Scottish Premiership trophy.

Earlier in the week, Celtic stars Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Kasper Schmeichel, Arne Engels, and Daizen Maeda made a return visit to the hospital, fulfilling a promise they made to the children during their Christmas trip.

This time, though, they arrived with the Scottish Premiership trophy in hand, offering countless deserving children the chance to experience it up close.

Speaking to the Official Celtic FC Podcast, skipper Callum McGregor said:

“Having such a close connection to the hospital, we know how difficult it is for the kids there. We know the really serious challenges faced by many of the kids and that so many of them are in the hospital long term too, so anything that we can do to lift their spirits in some way, then we are really happy to help.”

Kirsten Sinclair, Chief Executive of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, outlined: “We are immensely grateful to Celtic Football Club for their continued support and for bringing the Scottish Premiership trophy to the Royal Hospital for Children today.”

“Opportunities like this provide a much-needed boost for young patients and their families during what can be incredibly challenging times. The excitement of seeing the trophy and meeting the players created a truly memorable experience that will be cherished by all involved.”

The squad visited the hospital to bring festive joy to young patients and their loved ones at Christmas time, with one family especially thrilled by the unexpected visit.

When six-month-old Conan McCormick was visited by Callum McGregor and other Celtic players at Glasgow Children’s Hospital, his father Jay, 29, said he was stunned and speechless as they arrived at the door.

The self-employed groundworker shared how meeting the team was a memorable experience and spoke about the positive impact their visit had on his family.

Speaking via Daily Record, he said: “I was playing with Conan when the door chapped. Before I could turn around, Callum McGregor walked into the room. The other guys followed. Callum started speaking with me and asking what was going on. It made me calmer and he was sending me all the best wishes.

“It was a very proud moment to see my team come in and give me a bit of a lift. They gave us a bit of joy. It was a bittersweet moment. I was a bit lost for words and starstruck but managed to gain my composure.”

This is how it feels to be Celtic.
