Celtic breezed into the Premier Sports cup semi final and will face theRangers in November’s semi-final as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to defend the trophy.
The Celtic manager named a strong side and the end result was a stroll as you’d expect with goals from Yang, Liam Scales, Sebastian Tounekti and Luke McCowan seeing us march into the semi finals. Not too sure if Yang’s apparent lack of celebration was just because he was as surprised as everyone else that it had gone in or was maybe related to an unhappiness at being denied his move to Birmingham by the blundering Celtic board in the last days of the summer transfer window.
A huge Celtic support descended inside Firhill, with many more outside looking for any vantage point they could find on the hills. And yet again the vast majority of the Celtic support made their feelings towards the Celtic board abundantly clear throughout the ninety minutes, and especially in the visual display at the start of the cup-tie.
There might be some clouds hoovering over Celtic off the park, but on it we look well drilled and thankfully the team is now posing more of an attacking threat than in previous weeks.
That is down mainly to the introduction of Tunisian winger Sebastian Tounekti who yet again impressed with his ability and willingness to beat his man, and also added his name to the scoresheet by scoring a superb third goal just after the break.
Kelechi Iheanacho also got a start, and despite firing a blank he looked impressive and sharp in his movement as looks to improve his fitness. Kelechi also showed his class with his role in the third Celtic goal, scored by Tounekti.
Kieran Tierney also played the full ninety, the first since his summer return, in what was yet another plus as was his emerging partnership down that left flank with the Tunisian international winger.
All in all it was decent ninety minute work out as we begin a run of three games in a week, and next stop is Belgrade in the Europa League opener, which goes without saying will be extremely tougher than an enjoyable game of football in Maryhill.
