Celtic have reportedly had an opening bid for Jakob Breum knocked back. The Scottish Champions are in the market for attackers and the Dane has been on a list of targets pursued by the club.

According to Stephen McGowan in The Herald, Celtic have had their opening offer of £1.5m rejected by Go Ahead Eagles as Brendan Rodgers hunts a replacement for Nicolas Kühn.

In 68 appearances for the Eredivisie, Breum has scored 14 goals and assisted on 10 occasions. The 21-year-old will be attracting interest from across Europe and Celtic will be weighing up whether to return with a follow up bid for the player.

The report states that the Dutch side want £5m for the player as explained by Jan Willem van Dop, a club director.

“There has been a bid for Jakob Breum from a foreign club

“We are so far apart there. You have to stand your ground. He may have to realise that it could be very good to stay with us at least until the winter break, just like Oliver Edvardsen.”

“We think that Breum and Antman should be allowed to leave for more than six million (£5million). If that doesn’t happen with this club, then maybe another one will come. And if not, then we hope that with all the positive feelings they have, they will stay with us and go into Europe. Then we will see during the winter break.”

Celtic have missed out on Isak Janson, who they targeted from Rapid Vienna, so will want to get another winger into the building soon. The club will be looking at a number of candidates and will not wish to leave it too late.
