Fresh from appearing at the Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury, singer-songwriter Roanne Downie is heading home this weekend to perform at the TRNSMT Festival at Glasgow Green.
And having performed there a couple of years ago alongside Paul Heaton, she’s now looking forward to stepping out on stage for a solo performance.
Of course, for the self-confessed Celtic fan, nothing will beat playing at a packed Paradise before a UEFA Champions League game (Lazio in October 2023), but these massive music festivals run it close.
Speaking in the latest issue of the Celtic View, Rianne explained that it has been a whirlwind few years for her, which will continue with the release of her debut album, The Consequence of Love, in October and a tour to accompany it.
Rianne told the View: “It feels non-stop at the moment and I’m playing gigs that I never really thought I’d ever play.
“And the fact that I get to go home, get off the tour bus, drive to Celtic Park and have a chat with the Celtic View, it’s class!
“I’m so grateful. It’s mental because I feel like there’s been a few gigs now, starting with TRNSMT a few years ago with Paul, that were total ‘pinch me’ moments. I still don’t think any of that has sunk in and I’m so grateful to be there.
“I’ve played some amazing gigs now to be fair, and, naturally, I’ll never forget playing at Celtic Park, that was amazing.
“And obviously Glastonbury and TRNSMT with Paul Heaton, especially the moment when he announced to the crowd what team I support! That was class.
“I’m so excited for the tour. I’m playing the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow and that’s always been a dream for me.
“It’s just such a gorgeous venue and the fact that I’m hopefully capable of selling that many tickets in my hometown is just such a beautiful thing, it genuinely is.
“Performing in Glasgow, it's hard to really put it in to words. It’s more like a feeling. It’s almost euphoric in a way.
“And I’m always the most nervous for a hometown show as well because it’s the people of Glasgow who have got me to where I am, so it sort of feels like that’s my chance to give back to them as well.”
