Celtic are working on a deal to sign SC Freiburg forward Junior Adamu on loan before the transfer deadline on Monday, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Manager Martin O’Neill wants attacking reinforcements to boost the Hoops’ title chances in the Scottish Premiership race, and Adamu has emerged as a target.

The Bhoys’ target is waiting for the green light to travel into the United Kingdom to join Celtic, but they are not the only club interested in signing him.

Adamu has bagged two goals and one assist for the Bundesliga club this season after notching four goals and two assists last term.

The 24-year-old has tallied more than 200 appearances as a professional, and his experience would be useful for Celtic.

However, it is unclear if the Parkhead club have enough time to complete a deal for the Austria international.

The Bhoys have signed Mexican defender Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth, while Czechia international striker Tomas Cvancara has joined on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach.

They have recalled Stephen Welsh from his loan at Motherwell, while Adam Montgomery has returned from his loan at Livingston.

O’Neill needs to strengthen his squad in the coming hours to have a realistic chance of winning the title, and adding Adamu to the ranks could be a smart move.
