Celtic head to Ibrox on Sunday to face Rangers in the 450th Old Firm derby, a game that could be hugely important in a tight three-way race for the Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic are currently third in the table. Martin O’Neill’s side are nine points behind leaders Hearts and two points adrift of Rangers. However, The Bhoys have games in hand on both of those sides.

Celtic did pick up a confidence boost with a 1-0 win away to Stuttgart in the Europa League on Thursday, although they still went out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.

Both Celtic and Rangers are trying to close the gap on surprise pace-setters Hearts, and this match could have a big say in the title outcome.

Celtic team news

Celtic will have to cope without centre-back Auston Trusty, who is suspended for Sunday after the SFA rejected the club’s appeal against his recent red card.

Right-back Julian Araujo is also a concern after picking up a knock and missing the trip to Germany for the win over Stuttgart. He will be checked before kick-off to see if he can play.

Arne Engels has sat out the last four matches with a thigh problem and is not expected to be available again until after the international break in March.

Callum Osmand is still ruled out until at least the end of March, while Alistair Johnston has been sidelined since October following hamstring surgery. The defender might not return until April.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and winger Jota are both long-term absentees and are unlikely to feature again this season. Elsewhere, defender Adam Montgomery is also missing due to a calf injury.
