Securing European silverware and a spot in next season’s Champions League aren’t the only reasons Manchester United are going all-out to reign victorious in the Europa League this month.

In qualifying for the 2025/2026 UCL, they’re granted a major bargaining chip in negotiations with any potential targets this summer.

Some players are adamant about plying their trade among Europe’s elite if they’re looking to advance in their careers – one being Liam Delap, who’s been deemed United’s first-choice striker target over more experienced counterparts such as Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres.

Why Delap is garnering so much interest

It’s widely anticipated the 22-year-old will depart Ipswich Town in the coming months following just one season at Portman Road. Their relegation back down to the Championship ensured he’ll be available for £30 million throughout the window, as opposed to a £40m release clause had they retained their top-flight status.

Delap has enjoyed a stellar personal term in his first year as a nailed-on starter. He departed Manchester City last July in a £20m switch to the Tractor Boys and now boasts a hugely impressive 12 goals and two assists in the 33 Premier League appearances he’s made in 2024/2025.

David Moyes: We’d take Delap without hesitation

He won’t be short of suitors this summer, either. Reports have previously claimed almost every single club in the division would be open to signing the England U21 international, with United and Chelsea deemed the most likely to get a deal over the line.

Everton, whilst preparing for the possible departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have thrown their name into the mix by publicly confirming their interest.

David Moyes said of Delap this week: “He would be one who we would certainly have an interest in. I think what he probably has to look at will probably be bigger than what we are.

“So, we would certainly be interested if he was interested in us. That’s for sure.”
