Cesar Peixoto prioritises unity as he prepares to lead Wolves in the Championship, aiming for a swift Premier League return.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Portuguese coach is seeking to pull the club together after last week’s shock dismissal of Rob Edwards. Pre-season is not due until the first week of July, yet he intends to speak to senior players sooner to set out his plans.

Talks have already been held on potential signings, with Jorge Mendes expected to play a key role in recruitment. While his focus will be on the training ground, Peixoto wants every department engaged in the effort.

Peixoto, who has not previously managed outside Portugal, has returned home while awaiting the work permit required to start at Compton Park. On Tuesday the 46-year-old thanked Gil Vicente, where he also ended his playing career, reflecting on 16 months of growth and saying he must take this professional step despite his affection for the club.

Wolves moved for him after he led Gil Vicente to a sixth-placed finish in Portugal’s top flight last season. Members of his backroom team are expected to follow, with announcements likely closer to the start of pre-season.

Wolves have already added Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez this window. Departures are inevitable, and Toti Gomes has been linked with Benfica.
