César Tárrega used his derby recall against Levante UD to produce a composed display, a first step towards rediscovering the level that made him a mainstay for Valencia CF.
According to Superdeporte, the centre-back had recently lost his starting place after injury and the emergence of Eray Cömert. Absences opened the door on Sunday, returning him to the XI and handing him a chance to reset.
He was alert and well positioned, aligned with a disciplined back line, and he reduced Levante’s threat to zero. It was the response he needed to reaffirm his role.
This season has been complicated for Tárrega after excelling last term. The sale of Cristhian Mosquera, Valencia’s focus on survival and his own fitness problems have not helped him sustain previous standards.
After the match, Corberán praised the defenders, saying the three centre-backs, lining up in a back four, delivered a very serious performance and stayed switched on to the opponent’s transitions. He felt all three performed very well.
It offers Tárrega a platform to push back towards his best version, the one that earned him a renewal as one of the captains and made him a strong figure in the dressing room.
