WSL Football is looking to give the League Cup a major revamp that could see the exclusion of teams competing in the Champions League.
Currently, teams competing in Europe – which this year includes Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United – join the tournament for the knock-out round, bypassing the group stages.
However, in news that is conveniently timed following controversy over this year's knock-out draw, Telegraph Sport is reporting that the governing body is considering wholesale changes.
As well as the European teams being left out of the tournament, the group stage format could be scrapped in favour of the Swiss-style league system currently used in the Champions League.
Clubs are said to be on board with the new proposals which if they are confirmed will come into effect next season.
Chelsea are currently the defending League Cup titles and they will face Liverpool in the quarter-finals to take place next month.
