Ligue 1’s finale was chaotic on Sunday 17 May, with unrest in Nantes and Nice, Lille clinching direct Champions League entry, and an injury scare for Ousmane Dembélé. Le Progres reports a tumultuous finale.
Lille lost 2-0 at home to Auxerre yet finished third to book a direct berth. Lyon were thumped 4-0 by Lens and must navigate Champions League qualifying.
Nice drew 0-0 with Metz and now face the Ligue 1, Ligue 2 play-off. Post-match disorder in the stands could force the Aiglons to play behind closed doors.
In Nantes, the Toulouse match was abandoned at 0-0 after 22 minutes when home fans invaded the pitch and flares were thrown. The referee ended play on the prefect’s order.
PSG have a concern over Dembélé, who started against Paris FC but went off in the 27th minute, replaced by Goncalo Ramos. Ligue 1+ reported it could be a simple contracture. PSG lost the derby 2-1, two weeks before facing Arsenal in the Champions League final on Saturday 30 May.
Auxerre sealed survival despite spending 25 of 34 matchdays in the danger zone. Coach Christophe Pelissier called it an exploit.
Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul finished top scorer with 21 after netting in a 3-1 defeat at Marseille. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang celebrated OM’s third by miming an extinguisher, a nod to a recent incident in which he reportedly emptied one in Bob Tahri’s room. Le Havre sporting director Mathieu Bodmer resigned after safety was secured with a 2-0 win at Lorient.
