Charleroi set to bring in Metz defender to boost Rik De Mil’s options at the back

HLN are reporting that Charleroi are set to sign right-back Kevin Van Den Kerkhof from French side Metz. The 29-year-old Algerian will join up with Rik De Mil’s side on loan until the end of the season. Van Den Kerkhof has played in the city before, albeit for Olympic de Charleroi back in the 2019/2020 season when the side were in the third tier of Belgian football.

With Velte Dragsnes departing for Brann, the signing of Van Den Kerkhof will give Charleroi more options at full-back. The 29-year-old played pretty frequently for Metz during the 2023/2024 campaign, with 31 appearances, one goal and two assists. Last season, in Ligue 2, he only made 18 appearances, with two goals and three assists. Prior to joining Metz the defender has played for SC Bastia, F91 Dudelange in Luxembourg and a handful of other French sides.

With four games gone in the Belgian Pro League, Charleroi are yet to pick up their first win. The side were also knocked out of Europa Conference League qualification by Swedish side Hammarby. Their game with Genk this weekend has bene postponed due to their opponents taking part in Europa League qualification against Lech Poznan.
