Liam Rosenior wins big on managerial debut in third-round London derby
Liam Rosenior made a winning start to life as Chelsea head coach on Saturday as the Blues beat Charlton 3-1 to progress in the FA Cup. The Blues made a tentative start to the match, but led shortly before half-time through Jorrel Hato’s emphatic volley, drilled into the roof of the net. Tosin Adarabioyo made it two shortly after the break, but Chelsea were then pegged back by Myles Leaburn.
Marc Guiu then quelled the rebellion, however, scoring from close range to restore the two-goal advantage, before substitute Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez both added finishing touches in injury-time to seal the occasion. It was a perfect start to Rosenior’s premiership as he became the first Chelsea manager to win on debut since Antonio Conte in 2016.
There were some huge cupsets earlier in the day, most notably non-league Macclesfield’s shock defeat of Crystal Palace, but Chelsea did not suffer such a fate.
