Three thousand travelling fans were in attendance, hoping and praying that United could achieve only their third win away at Stamford Bridge in all competitions since 1986.

Unfortunately, despite getting back into the game through an Isak equaliser, NUFC suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat.

Here’s how the lads got on individually, match ratings out of 10:

Pope – 5

Made two eye catching stops but was at fault for the winning goal.

I was praying he’d score a Jimmy Glass type effort when coming up for a corner in injury time – ask your parents if you’re lucky enough to be too young to know what that means.

Livramento – 7

Looks very assured on the ball and was able to provide a safety net for Nick Pope on more than one occasion.

One of our best players on the day.

Burn – 6

Survived a VAR check in the last minute when it looked like he’d given away a penalty.

Schar – 5

Booked early on and backed off from Palmer for the winning goal, allowing him far too much space.

Blasted an attacking free-kick over the bar from a great position when a second equaliser was needed.

Hall – 7

Looks a class act, both at the back and going forward.

Assist for the goal. Subbed off on eighty nine mins.

Tonali – 5

Feels like he’s still a touch off the pace at present.

Picked up a booking before being subbed off on sixty eight mins.

Bruno – 5

Not yet hitting the heights we know he’s capable of.

Question marks remain over the decision to make him captain.

Joelinton – 6

Involved in the goal but, like Bruno, doesn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders and isn’t influencing games like we know he can.

Would like to see more from them both and Tonali. Robbed of a goal when Isak should have squared it to him at 2-1. Subbed off on eighty nine mins.

Almiron – 5

Got into a great position early on but dragged a poor shot wide.

Hard to justify him starting at present. Subbed off on sixty eight mins.

Barnes – 6

Involved in the goal but didn’t offer as much threat as he has in previous games.

Had a moment in the second half when he cut inside but didn’t manage to get the shot away that could have replicated his effort v Wolves a few weeks ago. Subbed off on sixty eight mins.

Isak – 7

Got into some great positions in the first half and a relief to see him back amongst the goals.

Had a header cleared off the line in the second half and looked busy throughout. Let himself down when not passing to Joelinton at 2-1.

Substitutes

Longstaff – 5

Didn’t make an impact after coming on.

Willock – 6

Looked dangerous and offers a threat going forward.

I’m really looking forward to him being back to full fitness.

Murphy – 5

Didn’t make an impact after coming on.

Kelly – N/A

Came on too late to make a difference.

Osulu – N/A

Will Wednesday night provide the perfect platform for him to kick-start his Toon career?

A place in the starting line up and a winning goal would do nicely.
