In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to land Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton. It has been revealed that the Blues are facing tough competition from Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to land the English talent this January.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign at the London club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. Wharton participated in 27 matches for the Eagles last season, securing a couple of assists in all competitions.
The English talent offered decent protection for his teammates at the back after making 34 tackles, 11 blocks, 20 interceptions and 27 clearances in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 75.6% in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for the Blues to snap him up on the cheap next year.

Wharton is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The English sensation is a decent passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
We can expect Wharton to add more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming years.
At 21, Wharton has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, the Blues would be wise to go all out to bring him on board next year. Wharton might even help Chelsea challenge across all fronts in the future. All in all, he would be a great option for the West London club to consider this January or at the end of this campaign.
