The sudden push made by Enzo Fernandez to try and engineer a move away from Chelsea this summer has made the potential for a major signing in midfield for the Blues far more likely.

They probably need an elite midfielder anyway – if they lose Enzo, it’s a guarantee they’ll spend big on someone impressive. Right now, there’s no doubt that Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton would be among the favourites.

Chelsea face intense battle for expensive midfield option

CaughtOffside today have a report which updates us on our long-standing interest in the England star. The say that the 22 year old is likely to cost up to €100m, about the same money as we’d get for selling Enzo. That price could even rise if he plays a key role for the Three Lions in North America.

It would be a tricky deal to do – especially with Manchester United also chasing the former Blackburn man. Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford, which creates the perfect spot for Wharton to fill. There’s also a sense that United are on the right track back to success, and they look likely to qualify for the Champions League.

In other news…

Some pretty sensational rumours about Chelsea wanting a key Arsenal player have come to the surface this week – but there are two main reasons it won’t happen.

Fabrizio Romano, of all people, has been speaking out about Marc Cucurella’s comments on the Chelsea project as a whole.
