In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Chelsea are set to rival Arsenal for Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. It has been claimed that the Blues are keeping tabs on the Spanish talent this summer.

Casado’s Impressive Season In Spanish Football

Casado managed to shine at times for the Catalan club in the previous campaign when he produced a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Spaniard registered one goal and picked up six assists in 36 appearances for Barca last season across various competitions.

The 21-year-old did well to make 44 tackles, 20 blocks and 22 interceptions in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 89.3% in the Spanish top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Blues to snap him up on a cut-price deal this off-season.

What Will Casado Add To Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca’s Team?

Casado loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball as well from midfield.

The Spanish sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-back if required. However, he would need some time to adjust to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to bring him on board this summer.

We can expect Casado to add more quality to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s team. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.

At 21, the future looks quite promising for Casado as long as he continues to improve with each year. Therefore, Maresca would be wise to step up his pursuit of the Spanish midfield ace in this summer transfer window. Casado might even help the West London club compete for some major silverware over the next decade.
