Both Palmer and Joao Pedro missed the 3-0 defeat against Brighton last time out through injury.

Palmer was out with a hamstring problem, while Joao Pedro was nursing a thigh issue.

The interim head coach, who has succeeded the recently-sacked Liam Rosenior, also revealed that Estevao would be out for the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring issue.

“Joao and Cole have trained,” McFarlane said on Friday.

“They’re in a good place. We don’t know yet. We’ve got another day tomorrow where we’ll look at that and make a decision.

"Yes we hope [they could both start]. They’ll train tomorrow and we’ll make a call.

"Estevao unfortunately won't play for us this season. He’ll be out for a little bit of time. But we’re here to support him.”

For Estevao, it is unclear whether the young forward will miss the World Cup, with the winger touted to be in Carlo Ancelotti’s thinking for this summer’s tournament.

The 19-year-old already has 11 senior caps for his country and has impressed in his debut season in England, playing 22 games in all competitions, scoring two times and laying on two assists.

Chelsea, sat eighth in the Premier League table, are looking to arrest their slide after five straight defeats. They have not scored in any of those recent league losses.
