Chelsea have a few pieces to move around this month, mainly in terms of sales, and it looks like they’ve lined up a dream situation with one of the assets they’re looking to move on.
Cesare Casadei has been used mainly as a backup to the backups, picking up a few appearances here and there in the cups and Conference League. But as those competitions all reach the sharp end, opportunities will become harder to find for the Italian, and the time seems right to move him on.
The good news for Chelsea’s sporting directors is that Casadei has a lot of interest already – which should allow for a prompt and profitable deal for the the Blues. Torino were leading the chase, and they had got as far as negotiating over a potential price and deal structure.
But today Fabrizio Romano has reported that Napoli are joining the table, and with Antonio Conte “keen on bringing Casadei back to Italy” they could well help pump the former Inter youngster’s value up.
Romano adds that Feyenoord and two English clubs have also been in talks with Chelsea, who want to include a sell on fee as well as the initial payment. All that competition is great news for Casadei, and for us.
Cesare Casadei glows in his press conference.
Napoli are in a title race in Serie A, have a great manager in charge and are the biggest club historically of those who want Casadei. We expect him to choose them if the option is there. It will now come down to negotiations with Chelsea over how much the Blues want – we’ve heard talk of them holding out for £15m plus the sell on, which seems doable.
After struggling for game time, the 21 year old could yet end the season with a league winner’s medal.
