Barcelona’s search for a reliable left-back continues to generate headlines, and now an unexpected name has entered the conversation.
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, once a product of La Masia, has publicly addressed the hypothetical possibility of a return to the Catalan giants, and his words have certainly raised eyebrows.
Speaking ahead of Spain’s upcoming international friendly against Egypt, Cucurella was inevitably quizzed about his future, especially amid growing speculation linking him with a move back to La Liga.
While the defender made it clear that he is not actively seeking an exit, he did not shut the door on a potential Barcelona approach either.
“Obviously, if those kinds of opportunities come up, they’re hard to turn down, but I’d have to think it over and talk to my family.
“I’m not thinking about that right now; if it happens, we’ll see what decision is made,” Cucurella explained when asked what he would do if Barça called him.
In theory, Cucurella, who understands the club’s philosophy and style, would arguably be a natural tactical fit if the opportunity ever arose.

However, the Spaniard was equally keen to emphasise his current happiness in England.
“It’s my country, where I grew up, and you always think about going back. But I’m very happy there and would only consider it years down the line,” said the defender.
From Barcelona’s perspective, the left-back position is indeed an area under review.
The club are actively assessing options in the market, with players like Andrea Cambiaso and Alejandro Grimaldo reportedly being monitored more closely at this stage.
Despite Cucurella’s openness, it is important to note that he is not currently a priority target for the Blaugrana.
The club’s transfer strategy appears focused on profiles that are better suited to their financial structure and immediate tactical needs.
