Nicolas Jackson has been ruled out until after the international break, Matt Law has just confirmed in an exclusive article for the Daily Telegraph.
Jackson reportedly had a scan on Wednesday that confirmed damage to his hamstring picked up in the win over West Ham, an injury he actually tried to play through.
The “earliest” Chelsea can expect him fir for the is game against Tottenham on the 2nd of April – and even that feels hopeful. The club claim they’re “confident” they can cope without their only experienced striker, but we’re not so sure. Quite radical tactical solutions will be needed to find goals in this team – the wingers aren’t offering enough, and even Cole Palmer has slowed down of late.
January saw the Blues look at a number of attacking options, but eventually decided to hold fire until the summer. The very night that the window closed, Jackson and Guiu picked up their injuries.

It’s no exaggeration to say that this injury could be breaking point for Chelsea’s season, within the context of everything going on right now. The team is really struggling right now, and that was even with their main striker available.
Jackson’s loss combined with what looks a long layoff for backup Marc Guiu means that we’ll be playing a winger up front, or continuing to use Christopher Nkunku, who looks totally unsuited to playing that role in Maresca’s team, and increasingly just looks disinterested and demotivated after not being counted on all season.
Maresca has repeatedly said he’s happy with the options available to him, but even he will surely be forced to admit he’s in trouble now. Most fans were saying it was clear that the club needed a striker even WITH Jackson and Guiu available – without them, we really might be sunk.
