Marc Cucurella is always a chatty chap, especially when he’s speaking to the media in his home country.
The left back has joined up with Spain for their games this week, but of course all the questions end up being about club football. In this case, the local journalists are already worried about a game that isn’t taking place until the 25th November, when Barcelona come to Stamford Bridge.
That isn’t just a big game for Chelsea because of the historic rivalry. It’s also especially big for Marc Cucurella as he came through the Catalan club’s “La Masia” academy.
Marc Cucurella speaks to Sky Sports at full time.
“It will be a great game. I haven’t played against Barça in many years. Everyone is asking me for tickets, and there are still a couple of months to go,” the former Brighton man said.
“The Champions League is a special competition: the atmosphere, the day, everything… Hopefully, we can win.”
“I think Barça are slight favourites. We haven’t played in the Champions League for a few years, and we have a young team.”
The Spaniard had also previously joked about injuring his Spain teammate Lamine Yamal ahead of the game.
Well, we’re not sure we like being painted as outsiders here. Chelsea have spent a lot of money on this project while Barca have been broke for years now. There should be a vast gap in quality, and we certainly should be favourites.
There is indeed more experience in the Barcelona team, but we should still be looking to beat them, especially playing at home. Let’s hope Cucurella’s got a more positive outlook by the end of November. The game could prove vital for our qualification chances.
