Enzo Maresca confirms three Blues players ready to face Burnley amid freak Cole Palmer setback
Enzo Maresca has revealed that Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto are both fit for Chelsea’s trip to Burnley on Saturday, with Benoit Badiashile also available to return.
Fernandez made himself unavailable for Argentina’s friendly in Angola last week after asking to be replaced late on during Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves due to a persistent knee injury.
Neto also requested to be taken off after scoring Chelsea’s third goal at Stamford Bridge in their final game before the international break. Originally selected for Portugal duty, he dropped out of their squad before World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Armenia with a groin issue.
But Neto’s chances of featuring at Turf Moor this weekend appeared to grow when he was pictured taking part in Chelsea training at Cobham on Monday afternoon.
Maresca has now confirmed that Fernandez and Neto are both available for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, but also revealed that he was yet to see Moises Caicedo after the latter only returned to England on Thursday evening follow international duty with Ecuador.
Badiashile is an option in defence again after recovering from a muscle injury suffered against Liverpool in early October.
“Moi [Caicedo] came back last night,” the Chelsea boss told reporters at his pre-Burnley press conference on Friday. “I didn’t see him yet.
“But he’s good. Benoit is back. He can be available for tomorrow, that's great news for us.
“And then Enzo and Pedro, they used the international break to recover a little bit of energy, also to recover from the injury, the problems they had, and they are both available for tomorrow.”
Chelsea will again be without Cole Palmer, however. The attacker had been “very close” to returning from a persistent groin injury but suffered a fresh setback on Wednesday when he stubbed the little toe on his left foot on a door in a freak accident at home, causing a fracture.
Maresca ruled the England star - who has not played for two months - out of Chelsea’s next three matches, against Burnley, Barcelona and Arsenal.
The Blues also remain without Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo due to injury.
