Former Man U scout Mick Brown has been discussing the Premier League’s goalkeeper roundabout, and reckons that Chelsea are in for a premium option – Emi Martinez of Aston Villa.

He’s been linked with moves away, but nothing solid has come about yet.

“Martinez is a very good goalkeeper, and from what I hear there are a few clubs who have been made aware that he will be available this summer. One of those clubs is Chelsea, who have been looking to strengthen in that position,” Brown wrote for Football Insider.

“It’s different at Chelsea to Man United, because they’ve got about four goalkeepers but they can go and sign Martinez and worry about what to do with the rest afterwards. As things stand, I’d say they’re in a good position to get ahead of United for that deal. The door has been left open so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them make a move.

“United are very much in danger of missing the boat over this one. They’ve held talks but a Chelsea hijack is looking likely.”

Chelsea move for expensive premium goalkeeper feels unlikely based on recent evidence

We couldn’t disagree with Brown more. A Chelsea hijack feels extremely unlikely to us. The Blues showed with their interest in Mike Maignan that they have some very strong lines they’ve drawn over costs, and Martinez would demand huge wages as well as a major transfer fee.

It’s a move that many fans would love to see happen, but it couldn’t be further from fitting with the model we have in place now. It’s best not to get your hopes up/
