Morgan’s contract with Chelsea is set to run out at the end of next season, and the Blues have no plans to extend his deal beyond 2027.

Rather than let him leave on a free transfer, Chelsea are ready to sanction a permanent exit for the 20-year-old this summer, and West Brom are reportedly leading the race.

The Blues are expecting a modest transfer fee, but they’re expected to include a significant sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

Morgan is considered one of the most exciting young attacking talents available on the market after an impressive loan spell with Peterborough United during the 2025/26 campaign.

The England youth international enjoyed a productive season in League One, scoring 12 league goals and registering three assists in 34 appearances.

He scored 14 times across all competitions, flexing the finishing ability that has made him such a sought-after prospect.

Capable of playing both as a striker and in an advanced midfield role, Morgan’s versatility has attracted attention from several Championship clubs.

Earlier this year, he was linked with Sheffield United, Swansea City and Preston North End. However, West Brom now appear to be leading the race for his signature and are working to finalise a deal.

Morgan joined Chelsea from Southampton in 2022. The Blues paid an initial £3 million to secure his services when he was just 17 years old.

Since then, he has continued his development through loan spells, with former Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson praising his finishing ability.

“Jimmy is a very good young striker, and I am delighted to get him,” he said.

“He is a good finisher, is aggressive with his press, a really nice lad too, and I think he will be a really good addition.”

Chelsea are expected to be active in the transfer window as the Blues prepare for a new era under Xabi Alonso.
