Chelsea in our sights

Arguably our biggest rivals for a Champions League place, Chelsea, edged past Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to leapfrog Newcastle United.
No surprise there as Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are woeful.
United of course still have that very precious game in hand over the Blues.
I’ve been looking at the remaining Chelsea fixtures in the EPL.
They have Brentford next at the GTech Community Stadium and if Brentford play somewhere near like they did in spells against Newcastle, I can see Chelsea’s work being cut out.
They have Ipswich at home after that and I cannot see them dropping points against the doomed Tractor Boys.
On the 20th of April Enzo Maresca’s side then take on local rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Two home games against those ‘lovable’ blue and red scousers, Everton and Liverpool, duly follow. Champions elect Liverpool could seal the title at Stamford Bridge if they haven’t already done so.
And then it’s the big one on May 10th, Newcastle United v Chelsea. I think everything will probably be riding on the result of this game.
United have a good recent record against Chelsea at St James’ Park. Strangely enough, even harking back to their two spells under Jose Mourinho, the Blues never really fared well against us at Gallowgate.
Chelsea’s last home fixture is against ‘dead man walking’ Ruben Amorim’s hapless Manchester United. This is possibly the easiest game of their run-in.
On the last day of the season (May 25th) they travel to the City Ground to take on surprise of the season side, Nuno Esprito Santo’s revitalised Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle will be entertaining Everton that day.
So this takes me back a few paragraphs to our crunch game against the West Londoners on May 10th.
Chelsea are a club that a lot of us loathe, including yours truly.
Elvis Costello once sang ‘I don’t want to go to Chelsea’.
So to put a spin on that, I wonder if Maresca’s men will be up to the challenge of coming “all the way up Norf”, for what could well be the game that decides both teams’ Champions League fates.
