Calum McFarlane was asked a few questions about Cole Palmer in his press conference yesterday, and you’ve got to admire how strong the interim coach’s commitment was to not saying anything of interest.
The exchange with a journalist about Palmer’s form had us chuckling. Asked why the attacker hadn’t been at his top level, McFarlane answered that he “hadn’t said he’s not at his top level.
“No you haven’t but I’m suggesting he isn’t,” the journalist clarified.
“You’re suggesting that? I’m not suggesting that,” McFarlane responded. It’s like a Two Ronnies Sketch.
Finally, the two were able to understand each other, and the caretaker claimed that Palmer has had “some really good games for us,” despite some “injuries he’s had to deal with.”
We all know the reality – Palmer has been average to terrible all year. We know why McFarlane doesn’t want to admit that, but this kind of bizarre DoubleSpeak dance is just ridiculous. Would even Palmer himself claim he’s had some “really good games” this year?
Chelsea’s sporting directors face a battle to hold on to one of their big transfer successes this summer, according to the latest rumours.
The Guardian claim that Chelsea’s players have given Xabi Alonso the green light as the club’s new manager.
