Chelsea plan to offer a new deal to Marc Cucurella with the defender still considered a key part of the club’s project.
The West Londoners are closing in on the signing of Ajax left-back Jorrel Hato, but the arrival of the Dutch defender will have no impact on Cucurella’s future. Al-Nassr have been linked with a move to sign Cucurella but Chelsea are determined to hold onto 27-year-old.
Fabrizio Romano has dismissed the interest from Saudi Arabia. On X, he has said that Chelsea have no plans to sell the Spaniard. A new deal is being prepared for Cucurella, who was a central part of the club’s Europa Conference League and Club World Cup successes.
He is considered an important player by Enzo Maresca and will remain first-choice despite the expected arrival of Hato.
The latter will provide competition and cover for Cucurella, while offering an additional option as a left-sided centre-back. Hato featured predominantly at left-back for Ajax last season, scoring twice and providing six assists in the Eredivisie, but can also play centrally.
A deal for the 19-year-old is close with Hato having agreed personal terms with the Blues.
