Chelsea are viewed as frontrunners to sign a World Cup winger previously linked with Sunderland.

Kerim Alajbegovic, the Bosnia and Herzegovina teenager at Bayer Leverkusen, played in all four World Cup matches in North America and scored in a 3-1 win over Qatar. The Telegraph reports Chelsea are “most likely to do a deal” with Leverkusen, with Xabi Alonso said to be seeking to raid his old club for one of their brightest prospects.

Sunderland have made just one addition ahead of their maiden Europa League campaign, Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a two-year contract after leaving Lille earlier this summer.

Separately, Leverkusen are now open to talks over winger Ernest Poku, who has been linked with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest. Bild claims the club have changed stance and are ready to discuss a move in the final six weeks of the summer window.

Poku, 22, delivered six goals and 10 assists across 49 appearances last season and is a 21-times capped Netherlands Under-21 international. Bayer are said to be prepared to sanction a deal of around £22m, and the report adds he is set for a move to England before early September.
